The Aegis Fortress L3 is a NIST FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certified external hard drive that offers comprehensive data protection. Milled from a solid block of aircraft-grade 6061 aluminum alloy, the enclosure features snap-off uni-directional security fasteners and a membrane-style keypad. Designed to meet the stringent FIPS 140-2 Level 3 requirements, the entire device, including the hard drive, electronics, external fasteners, and the enclosure itself, is included within the elevated FIPS Validation boundary.

Inside the Aegis Fortress L3, all data is encrypted on-the-fly as it's being written to the drive using AES-XTS 256-bit hardware encryption, ensuring your data remains secure even if the hard drive is extracted from its enclosure. The device is ready to use right out of the box, with no software, drivers, or updates required, and is completely cross-platform compatible, excelling on any PC, Mac, Linux, or mass storage compliant system with a powered USB port.

One of the key features of the Aegis Fortress L3 is the forced enrollment system, which addresses a common security vulnerability prevalent in other manufacturers' encrypted drives. With forced enrollment, the Admin must first establish a PIN before the device can be used, and all PIN entries are performed on the device's keypad, making it compatible with systems without keyboards and ensuring that no security parameters are shared with the host computer.

The Aegis Fortress L3 also offers two Read-Only modes, which are perfect for accessing data on the drive in a public setting to protect against USB viruses, and are ideal for applications that require data to be preserved in its original, unaltered state, as the data cannot be overwritten or modified.

In addition, the device has a built-in brute-force defense mechanism. After a predetermined number of consecutive incorrect PIN entries, the L3 will conclude that it is under a brute-force attack and will perform a crypto-erase, deleting the encryption key and rendering all of the drive's data useless.

For added flexibility, the Aegis Fortress L3 can be configured with custom profiles, and multiple Aegis devices can be mass-configured at once using the Aegis Configurator (sold separately).
